The Orient Star RE-BQ0004Y00B features a copper dial. Part of Orient Star’s Sakigake Design Project, this Three Hand model uses a clear dial layout and an integrated case-and-bracelet design. The shaped bracelet links and polished details give it a distinctive appearance without additional calendar displays.
Inside is Orient’s calibre F7542 automatic movement, which winds through wrist movement and can also be wound by hand. Its stated power reserve is over 50 hours.
The stainless steel (SUS316L) case measures 38.7 mm across. The dial is protected by dual curved sapphire crystal (AR coating). It is supplied on a stainless steel (SUS316L) bracelet, with a manufacturer-stated water-resistance rating of 10 bar (100 m). This edition is limited to 900 pieces.
The Japanese word “Sakigake” means “pioneer” and refers to the brand’s commitment to exploring new possibilities and forms in watch design. The model is based on the concept of “subtle power,” which combines flowing curves with more distinctive structural elements.
It is complemented by newly designed skeletonized hands and applied faceted hour markers reminiscent of flower petals. The model deliberately omits the traditional power reserve indicator and date display, resulting in a much more balanced appearance.
The highly legible dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.
An interesting feature is the sophisticated connection between the case and the steel bracelet. The lines of the specifically shaped lugs flow seamlessly into the bracelet, as if the entire structure were created in a single stroke. The design evokes the elegant silhouette of the traditional Japanese yumi bow, and it is precisely this combination of fluidity and strength that reflects the central concept of the Sakigake project.
The steel case of the Orient Star watch is complemented by a newly designed link bracelet, consisting of rounded center links and H-shaped links. The folding clasp has also been redesigned; it is now shorter and slimmer. The bracelet’s new design ensures a high level of comfort even when worn all day.
The watch is powered by Orient’s in-house F7542 automatic mechanical movement, which offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and a precision of +15 to −5 seconds per day. Of course, this movement also features manual winding and a hacking function that stops the seconds hand while setting the time. The movement, operating at a frequency of 21,600 half-vibrations per hour, can be observed through the transparent case back.
This model is water-resistant to 100 m, so there’s no need to take the watch off while showering or swimming. With a case diameter of 38.7 mm, this model is ideal for anyone looking for a smaller watch and can be an attractive choice not only for men but also for women.
The Orient Star presents a significant shift in the design of the Contemporary series. It combines a traditional mechanical movement and Japanese attention to detail with a modern concept in which the case, bracelet, and dial form a single compact unit.
